Manchester LETS (Local Exchange Trading Scheme) is a community network which allows people to swap goods and services through a mutual credit system using an alternative currency, the "em".

The em has many advantages. Using it enables people to help each other and be helped, without needing any money. This makes it useful for people on low incomes, helps people excluded from the job market and lets people get something in exchange for their services which they might not want to offer professionally (e.g. cooking). Manchester LETS fosters a sense of community, and ems will stay local, benefiting other local people.
